Flooding in Kenya

NAIROBI, 6 January 2010 (IRIN) - Some 30,000 people are in urgent need of shelter, water, food and healthcare after heavy rainfall caused massive flooding, forcing thousands to leave their homes, according to the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS).

Roads and bridges have been destroyed or damaged, leaving villagers without food or water, putting them at risk of cholera and other waterborne diseases.

Unfortunately Kenya has been experiencing an upsurge of cholera outbreaks for the last eight months and so the potential for a larger outbreak seems high.
